Helping Reactive Dogs Feel Safe and Seen – Ethical, Effective Support for Dog-to-Dog Reactivity

If your dog barks, lunges, freezes, or simply can’t cope around certain people, dogs, or situations, it can feel overwhelming. But reactivity is far more common than most guardians realise, and it’s rooted in emotion, not disobedience. Dogs react this way when they’re scared, confused, frustrated, or unsure how to handle what’s happening around them.

My role is to help you understand why your dog behaves like this. Together, we look at what’s fuelling those big reactions, things like stress, fear, frustration, past experiences, or difficulty processing the world when excitement rises. Once we understand the “why”, we can start to gently shift how your dog feels in those moments.

The goal is simple:
help your dog feel safer, more secure, and more capable of choosing calmer responses.

We work at your dog’s pace, making life easier for them emotionally and easier for you practically. Over time, you’ll start to see your dog thinking more clearly, settling more quickly, and coping better around everyday triggers. Walks become calmer, your confidence grows, and your dog learns that the world isn’t as overwhelming as it once felt.

Paul was brilliant from the moment he walked in. He gave us excellent advice on how to help our 15 month old dog with his walking and reactivity. Paul also helped us understand how dogs can feel and gave us some excellent ideas to work with our own dog.
